About Us
Overbreeding of cats in the UAE is a growing issue that has led to a range of unfavourable consequences. One of the primary concerns is the spread of diseases among these cats, leading to a higher mortality rate and an overall compromised health. Health concerns such as malnutrition, flea infestations, rabies, roundworms and parasites not only affect the cats but can also pose risks to humans. Extreme temperatures in the UAE and scarce resources coupled with a shortage of shelters exacerbate this problem. The already limited number of shelters also face the challenge of being overworked and understaffed. Moreover, as these cats wander through busy streets in search of food or a place to rest, they are susceptible to accidents. Just recently, news was spread about dozens of kitties being found dead in an Abu Dhabi desert, Contributing factors to this problem include ineffective TNR (trap-neuter-return) programs, a lack of awareness, and irresponsible pet ownership. which is alarming. Previous attempts to solve this issue was the TNR program taken up by the government of Abu Dhabi. The costs associated with animal control, providing medical care for sick and injured stray cats, and managing conflicts between stray cats and humans can be substantial. However, by finding a sustainable solution to the issue of stray cat overpopulation, these costs can be reduced. It is crucial to recognize that animals are living creatures deserving of the same respect as humans and a healthy environment in which to thrive.
